Brilliant ruby. A powerfully scented bouquet displays mineral-accented red and blue fruit aromas complemented by pungent flowers, white pepper and incense touches. Offers deep red and blue fruit liqueur, cherry-cola and succulent herb flavors that show good definition and chewy texture. It comes off graceful for its depth and closes on a repeating floral note, with outstanding length and smoky, mineral cut.Inc. GSTSG$395.04 -
(6x75cl) 2020Vinous (95)
Shimmering ruby-red. The bouquet evokes pungent cherry, dark berry, floral, licorice, black tea and smoky mineral aromas. Youthfully taut bitter cherry and black raspberry flavors show excellent depth, and a spicy touch of cracked pepper sharpens the back half. Subtly chewy tannins build on a very long, penetrating finish that leaves bitter chocolate and candied lavender notes behind.Inc. GSTSG$353.62 -

The 2020 Les Perrières de Lafleur is more backward than the 2019 with blackberry and light estuarine scents plus a dab of shucked oyster shell in the background. The palate is beautifully balanced, gentle but firm in terms of grip, with wonderful poise and density on the finish. This will probably require longer in bottle than the previous vintage, but it will reward the patient. Tasted from ex-château magnum at Kate & Kon's 40-Year vertical in Austria.Inc. GSTSG$381.17 -
Vinous (94)
The 2020 Viognier The Age of Grace has a subtle, well-defined bouquet of detailed lemon sherbet, lemon thyme and crushed pebble scents, poised and, yes, graceful. The palate is well balanced with a fine bead of acidity, and linear and quite steely toward the almost Chenin-like finish. This is not a flamboyant, Rhône-like Viognier – it’s is far more tensile and racy. It should age extremely well in bottle.Inc. GSTSG$269.69 -

The 2017 Syrah continues to serve as one of the Cape's finest expressions of the variety. Gorgeous scents of raspberry, strawberry, Earl Grey tea and pomegranate seeds feature on the detailed nose; then the palate is lithe and silky, with perhaps more garrigue notes coming through with bottle age. Divine.Inc. GSTSG$396.15 -

The 2019 Pinot Noir Hirsch Vineyard comes from vines located just one ridge in from the Pacific Ocean and planted in 1995 at 1,200 to 1,500 feet in elevation, Medium ruby in color, it's scented of blood orange, cranberry and rhubarb, with nuances of turned earth, conifer, seaweed and mushrooms. The palate is medium-bodied with an abundance of silty tannins, appealing bursts of acidity, nuanced yet concentrated fruits and a long finish. It deserves at least another 2-3 years in bottle. 318 cases were made.Inc. GSTSG$2,424.16 -

The 2014 Cabernet Sauvignon Mount Veeder is beautifully complete, with a layered, multi-dimensional, elegant profile that's more structured than the Diamond Mountain, yet more seamless and approachable than the Howell Mountain. Crème de cassis, Asian spice, smoked earth, incense and sandalwood note all flow to full-bodied Cabernet Sauvignon that has no hard edges, ultra-fine tannin, incredible purity of fruit, and a great finish. As with all these 2014s, it's not about huge richness and opulence and more about purity, nuance and balance. It's a damn near perfect wine that will only get better with 2-4 years of bottle age and keep for three to four decades.Inc. GSTSG$1,901.72 -
Wine Advocate (100)
Very deep inky purple colored, the 2015 Cabernet Sauvignon Mount Veeder is a little youthfully reticent at this stage, offering glimpses at freshly crushed black currants, black berries and plums with touches of dried Provence herbs, menthol, cigar boxes and Indian spices. Full-bodied with very firm, very ripe tannins and an incredible core of black fruit, earth and spice layers, it has wonderful freshness and depth, finishing long and multilayered. 618 cases produced.Inc. Unfortunately, there won’t be a 2017 due to the fires, but the perfect 2016 Cabernet Sauvignon Mt. Veeder should certain tide you over. This literally off-the-charts effort is a good as Cabernet Sauvignon gets, offering complex blueberry and blackberry fruits, violets, bay leaf, and forest floor aromas and flavors. It’s a big, structured mountain Cabernet, yet it has a seamless texture, incredible elegance paired with full-bodied power, building tannins, and a great, great finish. Hide bottles for 4-5 years and it will keep for 3+ decades. Good luck keeping your hands off it, though. Anticipated maturity: 2023-2051Inc. GSTSG$1,863.57 -

Following the appreciation of the 2007 vintage from María José López de Heredia, the red 2007 Viña Tondonia Reserva is showing great, revealing unusual finesse and elegance. The nose is a little reticent but nuanced and complex, a little shy rather than explosive. The palate is medium-bodied, and the tannins are very refined. This has to be one of the finest vintages of Viña Tondonia Reserva of recent years. 200,000 bottles produced. It was bottled in November 2015.Inc. GSTSG$404.91 -

Tondonia's reds have been on an upward curve recently and are now at the same level as the bodega's world-class whites. This is a fine, elegant, savoury, low-alcohol blend of Tempranillo with 20% Garnacha and 5% each of Mazuelo and Graciano, combining summer berry fruit, racy acidity, granular tannins and an earthy, balsamic undertone. Good now, but this will develop further in bottle.Inc. GSTSG$394.01 -
Tim Atkin MW (94)
Serious and concentrated, at least by the standards of some López de Heredia reds, this reflects the heat of the 2009 vintage. Tempranillo-based with 30% Garnacha, Graciano and Mazuelo, it’s spicy, savoury and high toned with grippy tannins, layers of tobacco and red fruits and classic, supporting acidity. 2021-30Inc. Outstanding. Moderate reduction renders the nose tough to assess today. Otherwise there is good freshness and tension to the solidly concentrated and delineated medium-bodied flavors that exude a more subtle minerality on the firmly austere but not really rustic finale. A fresh raspberry strawberry nose after one of the lighter colours. Much broader on the palate with an impressive density here, strawberry and cherry, evenly balanced with finesse as well. All is there in quite a refined style. Drink from 2030-2036. Tasted: November 2023.Inc. GSTSG$514.92 -

(5 Star Wine) Fresh purple of medium depth. Much the liveliest bouquet with its concentration of raspberries, very complete and absolutely delicious. 5 Star Wine. An even ruby purple. This is very complete, the fruit covering the palate effortlessly, the acid and tannin structure perfectly balanced and a particularly long aftertaste with a suggestion of blood orange. Drink from 2030-2038. Tasted Oct 2024.Inc. GSTSG$730.74 -

The 2022 Corton-Pougets Grand Cru has a tightly wound bouquet with dark plum, raspberry coulis, incense and light sous-bois scents. It takes quite a few swirls of the glass to get the aromas going. The palate is medium-bodied with a structured, assertive opening. The tannins are slightly chalky, lending this Corton-Pougets edginess/nerve. Fine mineralité towards the finish yet tightly wound and almost curmudgeonly in its nascent state, this Grand Cru will demand long-term aginInc. GSTSG$1,240.92 -

Taken from a foudre rather than cask, the 2023 Corton-Pougets Grand Cru has an enticing bouquet with wonderfully defined red berry fruit, hints of tobacco and forest floor, delivering the complexity you'd expect from arguably Jadot's strongest red cuvée in the Côte de Beaune. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannins. Displaying exquisite balance and poise with plenty of nascent energy and a sustained, lightly spiced finish, this 2023 is up to the task of following the impressive 2022. Superb.Inc. GSTSG$1,113.33 -

This comes from southern-facing vines and possesses an exotic collection of aromas. Among them are bananas, rainwater, sweet spice and dried flowers. Gorgeously scented with an equally perfumed palate that haunts the long finish, this is very much a beckoning, come-hither kind of wine. Again, the various appellations of Corton just crush it in this vintage! 2022-34Inc. GSTSG$1,747.77 -
Jasper Morris Inside Burgundy (94-97)
Recently stirred so cloudy. Affects the bouquet too, so that is hard to judge. Unquestioned weight, plenty of energy, the lees with the wood shows more at the finish. No reason why this should not be an excellent wine. Another sample was produced, representing the component raised in foudre only, 10 barrels worth, so one third of the whole, has a clear pale lemon and lime colour. The fruit is clearly ripe but with no signs of exotic fruit. This fills the palate beautifully, a little citrus, enough white fruit flesh and then a long stony finish. Absolutely what it should be, and in 2022 something more. Drink from 2032-2040+. Tasted: October 2023.Inc. GSTSG$1,211.79 -
(6x75cl) 2023Jasper Morris Inside Burgundy (94-96)
Mid lemon yellow. Strict, fine and expressing the stony character of the vineyard more than the exuberance of the vintage. This is actually perfectly balanced, with just the right ripeness on the palate too. A fine minerality. Poise, class and length, very good. Drink from 2030-2038. Tasted Oct 2024.Inc. GSTSG$2,457.30 -
Jasper Morris Inside Burgundy (93-95)
Fine mid yellow. The bouquet is beguiling, an attractive but not exaggerated ripeness, the steely backbone one hopes for well covered in fruit, and a fine long finish. Excellent aftertaste. Drink from 2030-2038. Tasted: October 2023.Inc. GSTSG$575.19 -

The 2022 Clos Saint-Denis Grand Cru contains 30% stems this year, which is translated onto the nose distinct from Jadot's other reds: cracked black pepper and damp earth infuse the red fruit and lend the complexity underlying their inclusion. The palate is medium-bodied with fine grip and much more depth than the previous vintage, with a slightly powdery/chalky finish. There’s plenty of energy and tension from start to finish; this should age in consummate style.Inc. GSTSG$1,706.61 -

The 2023 Echézeaux Grand Cru has a very attractive bouquet with bright and vivacious strawberry, red cherry and cranberry fruit. Quite pure and well defined, this certainly shades the preceding Clos Vougeot. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannins and a lovely rondeur, gaining weight toward a deftly spiced and persistent finish that is real class.
