"This has to be one of the finest vintages of Viña Tondonia Reserva of recent years." Luis Gutierrez, Wine Advocate
As one of the oldest wineries in all of Rioja, López de Heredia are famous for their traditional style wines, in particular their Viña Tondonia Reserva which is produced from a single vineyard, something quite unusual for the region, though this practice is becoming more common as new producers take their cue from this legendary superstar.
Another classic practice that Lopez has popularised in Rioja is allowing the wine more time to mature at the winery. The estate never releases a vintage until it is deemed ready, allowing it to spend years slowly maturing in barrel until it has reached its ideal level of maturity.
With a superb 96 points from the Wine Advocate, the latest release 2007 is the highest-rated Tondonia Reserva ever and one of the greatest wines in Spain.
At £129 IB per case, this is also an exceptional value. This 2007 is utterly superb, with the Wine Advocate's Luis Gutierrez calling it "one of the finest vintages of Viña Tondonia Reserva of recent years".
A refined, restrained take on the vineyard's classic style, it is ready to enjoy right away but knowing the way Tondonia ages, it will develop magically in the cellar over many years to come.
