CVNE is a top producer in Rioja DOCa with a long and storied history dating back to the founding of the Compañía Vinícola del Norte de España (CVNE; or ‘Cune’ to its fans) in 1879. It is a family owned and run estate.

Today we are very excited to offer two special vintages (2001 and 2010) of the top wine from the estate in Magnum format.

The Grand Reserva Imperial is only produced in 'excellent' years. It is a blend 85% Tempranillo, 85%, 10% Graciano and 5% Mazuelo from the best Rioja Alta vineyards. These are the oldest bush-trained vines amongst the 28ha of CVNE’s oldest and highest vineyards around Haro and Villalba. Typically, Imperial Gran Reserva is aged in cask (60% French, 40% American) for 36 months with a further 36-48 months of bottle ageing, before being released.

Only around 50,000 bottles are produced (even fewer magnums).

The CVNE Imperial Gran Reserva shot to fame in 2013 when Wine Spectator named the 2004 vintage as #1 in its annual list of the World's Best 100 Wines.

Extraordinarily age-worthy in any vintage, the best years of Imperial, such as 2001 and 2010, are wonders to behold, and wines to be greedily snapped up.

Where else can you buy such heritage, wines with so much age, a famous appellation and excellent scores for such a price? We believe such opportunities are few and far between! +Show Less
