Within Bordeaux, the tradition of winemaking in the region has leant heavily on the red varieties but due to it's proximity to the sea and the gravel top soils with limestone bedrock, many of the left bank appellations, such as in Pessac-Léognan, are ideal for making world-class long-lived dry white wines.

One of the finest vintages of this wine released to date, today we have the pleasure of offering the Château Carbonnieux Blanc 2017. Scoring 95 points from Decanter, 95 points from the Wine Enthusiast, 92-94 points from Vinous's Neal Martin and 92 points from the Wine Spectator, this blend of blend of 60% Sauvignon Blanc and 40% Sémillion 'should evolve into an outstanding Pessac-Léognan' (NM).

There is a richness and concentration straight off the bat that is coupled with 'wonderful mineralité and veins of ginger furnishing the finish that convey brio and confidence' (NM). The steely structure means this 'should age very well' (DC) for at least another decade.

Château Carbonnieux can trace it's history back to the 12th century, but the modern Carbonnieux really started in 1956 when Marc Perrin acquired the then run-down historic estate and revived the fortunes of the original château and it's vineyards. Situated close to Châteaux Haut Bailly and Smith Haut Lafitte, Carbonnieux is one of the few estates in the whole of Bordeaux to produce equals amounts of red and white wines.

Offered today at £150 per case IB, as 'one of the most sophisticated white Carbonnieux' (NM) to date and only £25 per bottle IB, this is an exceptional value Pessac-Léognan and a standard bearer of white Bordeaux.
