The acidity is fine and the tannins are ripe, while there is still that clear backbone to the fruit which Vaucrains should have. Very persistent, and such high-class fruit. Drink from 2032-2040. Racked, and thus fully blended, to be bottled by the end of November. Mid purple, with a perfumed dark red fruit. Vigorous, well-balanced tannins, and good but not trenchant acidity. A fine long finish which remains fresh even though the fruit is clearly ripe. Very persistent. Drink from 2029-2037. Tasted: November 2023.

(5-Star) Also a glowing youthful purple. There is an excellent intensity of dark berry fruit on both nose and palate, clearly displaying more muscle than her 2023 Echezeaux yet without any sense of heat. Fine concentration, a first class, balanced and succulent Echezeaux. Drink from 2030-2040. Tasted Mar 2025.

Vinous (93-95)

The 2022 Bonnes-Mares Grand Cru comprises two barrels, one new and one a year old. It has quite a backward nose, more tertiary in style, quite flinty, in fact. Blind, I would not guess this to be from this vineyard at all. The palate is medium-bodied with fleshy ripe black cherry and boysenberry fruit, fine mineralité and backbone. This is much more open, fanning out with style towards the finish that has just the right amount of edge. It's very fine but will require bottle age to unlock the aromatics.

Vinous (91-93)

The 2022 Chambolle-Musigny Les Charmes 1er Cru comes from two barrels and is aged in 25% new oak. This is much more complex and nuanced on the nose than the Vieilles Vignes: very focused with ebullient red fruit laced with violet. The palate is medium-bodied with good density on the entry. It's quite structured for a Chambolle with some firm tannins on the finish, but sufficient fruit keeps it balanced and poised.

The 2022 Chambolle-Musigny Vieilles Vignes comes from six parcels from around the appellation. There is a touch of reduction on the nose, dark berry fruit mixed with iris flower and a touch of pencil box. A little introspective at the moment. The palate is medium-bodied with a candied entry, quite sweet with a lot of sucrosity. Maybe that detracts from its complexity towards the finish, which tapers when you want it to fan out. It's not bad, but it needs to gain some flesh in the coming months.

Lovely glowing purple, this is very sensual with an immediate red fruit charm. Very pretty yet with a fresh intensity, redcurrant and raspberry, above all a sense of purity and energy. This will make a beautiful Chambolle. Drink from 2028-2033.

(5-Star Wine) A pleasing ruby colour. The bouquet shows the perfect match of Vosne hedonistic fruit with the extra weight of Nuits-St-Georges. Fruit floods the palate, dark raspberry, a light acidity, tannins submerged beneath the fruit, a light touch of oak, and remarkably persistent. Very fine indeed. Enjoy it because two thirds of the plot on 161/49 rootstock was taken out after the 2022 harvest. Drink from 2032-2040.

Wine Advocate (93-95)

The 2022 Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru Les Suchots is one of the highlights of the range this year. Wafting from the glass with aromas of plums, cassis, orange zest and exotic spices and framed by a deft application of new oak, it's medium to full-bodied, concentrated and multidimensional, with terrific depth, velvety tannins and a long, broad finish.

A bright ruby purple. Like the Chambolle the bouquet is all about a primary energy. The Vosne is if anything a tad more precise. Also shows the oak a little more and an extra tannin. Backward, needs more elevage, but very promising. Drink from 2030-2036.

Splendid purity once again with an almost haunting quality of fruit, ripe cherries, fresh strawberry and persistent raspberry, with a fresh spicy finish. Very persistent. Drink from 2032-2040.

Burghound (91)

(from two different parcels of vines, one .56 ha parcel located in the premier cru Les Plantes, which was planted in 1968 and the second from a .77 ha holding in the villages-level portion of La Combe d’Orveau, 60% of which is young vines, and the remainder is 40+ year old vines; the split is about 55% La Combe d’Orveau and 45% Les Plantes). A ripe, fresh and elegant array is comprised by notes of red and dark currant, spice and a violet top note plus an interesting hint of orange peel. The beautifully textured and solidly concentrated medium weight flavors possess a lovely innate tension that carries over to the youthfully austere, balanced, minerally and impressively long finale. This is an excellent Chambolle villages.

The much bigger broad-shouldered flavors also possess outstanding density and power while exuding evident minerality on the precise, firm and very serious finale that delivers excellent length where the only nit is a hint of warmth. This is usually the undisputed best wine in the range but in 2022, the Perrières may well give it a run for its money.

The 2022 Marsannay Clos du Roy has a classy bouquet with beautifully defined black cherry and bilberry fruit, an underlying mineralité becoming more evident with aeration. The medium-bodied palate is fresh with finely chiseled tannins and impressive structure, yet finishes harmonious and pure. Bon vin.
