The 2022 Charmes-Chambertin Grand Cru reveals the same seriousness it displayed in barrel. Unwinding in the glass with notes of cherries, dark berries, orange zest and petals, it's full-bodied, layered and enveloping, built around a chassis of sweet, powdery tannins and animated by lively acids. While this is generally the domaine's most immediate grand cru, the 2022 will nevertheless demand a bit of patience.Inc. GSTSG$5,046.05 -

Derived almost exclusively from lieu-dit Les Draze, the 2022 Chambolle-Musigny Village wafts from the glass with aromas of red berries, cherries, rose petals and baking spices. A fresh and vibrant purple. 100% whole cluster. A sort of brioche reduction. Then it really develops on the palate, with a lifted vibrant red fruit, mainly raspberry, still some tannins behind, though the fruit covers them very nicely. Medium persistence. I can see Jeremy’s 2002 comparison for this wine. Drink from 2032-2040.Inc. GSTSG$7,377.64 -

From the usual four vineyards. Deep crimson. The bouquet has quite an elegant style even if the individual fruits are not yet quite with us. Quite a firm structure behind but sitting well with the deep red fruit. Balanced and stylish, with good ageing potential. Drink from 2031-2038. Tasted: November 2023.Inc. GSTSG$2,218.63 -

Glowing purple. There is a fine weight of fruit, building steadily, lifting deep cherry notes, with an excellent texture, serge not silk, but it provides a fine backbone. I can see this ageing into a classic Dujac village Morey, always one of Burgundy’s great village wines. Drink from 2030-2037. Tasted: November 2023.Inc. GSTSG$1,366.27 -

The 2022 Echézeaux Grand Cru, matured entirely in new oak, was surprisingly closed on the nose, needing a bit of coaxing. It offers dark berry fruit, truffle and light violet scents, the latter becoming more prominent with aeration. The palate is medium-bodied with sapid black fruit, blood orange, blueberry and crushed stone. It fans out towards the finish, perhaps the Beaumont with a bit more panache? The 2022 Vosne-Romanée Cros Parantoux 1er Cru is matured entirely in new oak. It has a brutally backward bouquet that only reluctantly begins to unfurl. I almost asked Emmanuel Rouget to run upstairs and give my glass a decant! The palate is silky smooth on the entry, beautifully focused and citrus-fresh. Blood orange and hints of crème de cassis appear towards the crystalline finish. Superb.Inc. GSTSG$43,716.41 -
