Wine Advocate (99)The 2001 Syrah Astralis Vineyard may be just as compelling as the 2002. Tighter because of being in the bottle, it is an extraordinary effort that offers the essence of graphite, blackberry liqueur, espresso, and acacia flowers, all combining into an olfactory smorgasbord for the senses. Sensationally concentrated, with sweet tannin, but neither weighty nor over the top as might be expected for a wine of such extreme richness, it is an extraordinarily well-delineated Syrah that should hit its prime in 10-12 years, and last for 30-40. Hail Caesar ... I mean Roman! |

Vinous - Neal Martin (100)Just weeks after tasting the 2001 Château d’Yquem at the estate, another bottle was served at a lunch in London and it was perfection. The aromatics are practically identical and likewise the palate, but this bottle, which had been decanted, displays a scintilla more tension, perhaps more "vibrancy" that so effortlessly counterbalances the richness. Irrespective of points, it is simply one of the most magnificent wines of any kind that can pass your lips. |

Wine Enthusiast (97)A classic in development, a wine that will last for decades. It is certainly powerful, but already the shape is finalized, with its plums and berries settling down with perfumes, acidity, just enough tannins and a warm, welcoming richness. A great argument for the superiority of 2001 over 2000. |

2003 was, like in much of Europe, a hot vintage in Hungary, but conditions were still enviable enough to yield a remarkably classic, honey and orange-infused Aszú. Rich, decadent with a notable creaminess to the palate, the finish is fresh and clean, and lingers on for minutes on the palate.

Vinous (87)Good fresh red. Perfumed aromas of redcurrant, minerals and flowers, plus a whiff of dill. A juicy, spicy midweight with lively acidity intensifying its rather cool, medicinal flavors of bitter cherry and licorice. Finishes firmly tannic and a tad dry. |
