Warmth on the palate, intriguing, slightly raisined fruits and restrained acidity. The sugar feels very low. Fine structure, elegant and seems much lower than the stated 16.5% alcohol. Retains a coolness on the palate which makes the wine extremely drinkable. There is a lot of disappointing amarone out there; this is a bottle to put thing to rights! An outstanding example of the genre. It’s age, complexity of flavour and alcohol – everything was beautifully balanced. Only produced in 2007, 2009 and 2011, this third edition shows towering aromas of sensuous dark fruit, leather and tobacco. Blackcurrants, tobacco leaf, cedar box, new leather, and an almost garrigue-like character all emerge from this full-bodied, silky, seamless effort that has fine tannin, perfectly integrated acidity, tannins, alcohol, and a great, great finish. It has 12.5% alcohol and a pH of 3.05, produced by pressing the full grapes and fermenting the juice in stainless steel and concrete eggs, kept with the lees for at least nine months and put to referment in bottle with Champagne neutral yeasts, and then matured with lees in bottle for 100+ months. It's a long-aging sparkling wine with high minerality and an austere mouthfeel, developing slowly in the glass and unfurling Mediterranean notes of fennel and esparto grass. It finishes very dry. This seems to be aging a little faster than the 2012. |

Pastry, a hint of smoke and autolytic notes provide a compelling counterpart to eager yet elegant aromas of citrus (lime, tangerine and kumquat) joined by those of fresh fruit, herbs, liquorice, and menthol. There is even a refreshing note of ivy. The palate is tense, vibrant, and very fresh despite its impressive density, which meets its match with an unending finish. This 2012 incarnates the very essence of Dom Pérignon with such a concentrated degree of intensity, along with a capacity for ageing, that it is surely destined for a second life in a P2 edition. |

Jeb Dunnuck (99+)Checking in as a blend of 93% Cabernet Sauvignon and the rest Petit Verdot and Cabernet Franc that hit 14.3% alcohol, the 2012 Dominus is a sensational wine that certainly ranks with the all-time greats of this cuvée and is reminiscent of the 1991. Ripe, flamboyant, and incredibly sexy, it nevertheless shows the classic style of this estate, has nothing out of place and just glides across the palate. Blackcurrants, tobacco leaf, cedar box, new leather, and an almost garrigue-like character all emerge from this full-bodied, silky, seamless effort that has fine tannin, perfectly integrated acidity, tannins, alcohol, and a great, great finish. Drink it any time over the coming 2-3 decades. It's a tour de force in Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon and one of the greats. |

After near misses in 2011 and 2012 in 2013 this amazing duo of winemakers produced the perfect wine in 2013. Wine Advocate critic Luis Gutiérrez said the 2013 reminded him of Pomorol’s Lafleur and was “definitely world class” and “worth laying down”. The 2013 has a drinking window to 2030 and all these wines will benefit from a decade of aging. Only around 3,000 bottles are produced, of this incredible wine (far less than wines like Screaming Eagle at 5,000-9,000). The super high scores and tiny production mean that this is a lovely vertical for collectors or investors to own. |

Wine Advocate (95)Coming from a cooler, sandy terroir in the northeastern part of the appellation, the 2011 Chateauneuf du Pape Cuvee Chaupin (which comes 80% from the Chaupoin lieu-dit and 20% from the La Janasse lieu-dit, hence the subtle name change) is 100% Grenache, from vines planted in 1912, that’s aged two-thirds in foudre and one-third in demi-muid. Gorgeous all around, with plenty of similarities to the traditional cuvee, yet slightly richer and fuller, it delivers beautiful mulled red and black fruits, licorice, spice and tinges of stony minerality on the nose. Wine Advocate (97)I'm increasingly convinced that Pierre Larmandier produced Champagne's wines of the vintage this year, and the 2011 Extra-Brut Blanc de Blancs Grand Cru Vieille Vigne du Levant only compounds that suspicion. Unfurling in the glass with a deep and complex nose of citrus zest, crisp yellow apples, smoke, warm bread, mandarin oil and oyster shell, it's full-bodied and fleshy but incisive, with huge concentration, bright acids and a long, intensely saline finish. Totally transcending the reputation of 2011, it has many of the textural properties of a great white Burgundy, married with the cut and chalky grip of Champagne's Côte de Blancs. |

Wine Advocate (95)2011 was a year of good ripeness and dry weather, similar to 2015 or 2019, a traditional Mediterranean year, when the 2011 Mas del Serral also showed a more traditional profile, with more toasty notes, some hints of cereals, honey and a touch of caramel, a little more oxidative than the 2012. It has 12.5% alcohol and a pH of 3.05, produced by pressing the full grapes and fermenting the juice in stainless steel and concrete eggs, kept with the lees for at least nine months and put to referment in bottle with Champagne neutral yeasts, and then matured with lees in bottle for 100+ months. It's a long-aging sparkling wine with high minerality and an austere mouthfeel, developing slowly in the glass and unfurling Mediterranean notes of fennel and esparto grass. It finishes very dry. This seems to be aging a little faster than the 2012. |
