Wine Advocate (93-95)

The king of the cellar chez Coche this year is the 2017 Meursault 1er Cru Charmes, a beautiful wine that unfurls in the glass with scents of white peach, oatmeal, spring flowers and subtle spices. On the palate, it's medium to full-bodied, layered and satiny, with a deep, concentrated core, lovely purity and a bright, precise finish. This is a classic in the making that will reward cellaring.

Crafted meticulously in the heart of Meursault, Burgundy, the decadent Jean-Philippe Fichet Meursault 2019 encapsulates the essence of its prestigious origins. Produced by the esteemed vintner Jean-Philippe Fichet, known for his unwavering commitment to creating distinct, terroir-driven wines, this vintage is no exception. The wine was born in a rocky, minerally vineyard, where the Chardonnay grapes are exposed to optimal sunshine allowing them to ripe exquisitely. Fermented traditionally in oak casks, Fichet's skilled artisanal approach yields a wine of impeccable balance and complexity. The resultant 2019 Meursault is a wondrously opulent yet fresh wine presenting an aromatic palate of ripe apples and pears intertwined with delicate mineral notes. This classic embodiment of white Burgundy carries a swift acidity, rounded off with a lingering, creamy finish. Enthralling critics and connoisseurs alike, the Jean-Philippe Fichet Meursault 2019 represents a tangible touchstone to the splendour of Burgundy’s terroir.

Jasper Morris Inside Burgundy (91-94)

Full pale lemon. The bouquet is attractive with an intriguing note of liquorice. Quite full on the nose, with a little warmth as well as body, then brought back in to a beautiful finish. Good acidity. A little tension behind, needs time. A wine currently showing in two halves, but which may very well develop positively from here. A conservative score for now. Tasted: November 2021

Vinous (91)

The 2015 Black Label from Wynns, which debuted way back in 1954 but only sported a black label from 1965, is aged for 18 months in 19% new oak. It has a ravishing bouquet of black cherries, menthol, lavender and pitted black olives, well defined and displaying just the right amount of plushness. The palate offers vibrant red fruit laced with white pepper and clove, plus touches of orange peel. There’s plenty of vibrancy here, and hints of cough candy toward the well-balanced, fresh finish. This is a delightful Cabernet Sauvignon that is à point but will have no problem aging for another 20 years.

Andrew Caillard MW (100)

Deep crimson. Lovely pure blackcurrant elderberry herb garden aromas with hints of espresso/ roasted chestnut notes. Beautiful concentrated wine with blackcurrant elderberry chinotto herb flavours, fine-grained and plentiful yet vigorous tannins, superb mid palate richness and integrated roasted chestnut/ cedar oak notes. Finishes chalky firm with a long inky/ graphite plume. Made for the long haul. Powerfully expressive yet unforced wine with superb vinosity, richness, density and volume. Superb. The fruit derives from the V&A (Victoria & Albert) and Nursery Vineyards, both located on classic terra rossa soils. From a dry, mild to warm growing season. Wait a few years to let it unfold, 2025-2050.
