Vinous (93)Brilliant ruby-red. A complex, expansive bouquet evokes red fruit preserves, smoky minerals, exotic spices and candied flowers that show excellent clarity. Sappy, alluringly sweet and penetrating on the palate, offering juicy black raspberry, cherry liqueur, spicecake flavors and a suave floral undertone. Plays richness off of energy adroitly and shows no rough edges. The mineral and spice notes drive an impressively long, sharply delineated finish that's framed by velvety, steadily mounting tannins. |

Vinous (93)The 2021 Morgon Côte du Py, matured in used barrels, has a more complex bouquet than the Corcelette: a melange of red and black fruit, potpourri/lavender, and a faint hint of curry leaf that emerges with time. The palate is medium-bodied with grainy tannins and a fine backbone considering the growing season. This is very fresh and saline with quite a strict finish. You could attempt this now though I would be intrigued to age this for another two or three years before broaching. |

Supple, deeply concentrated and alluringly sweet, offering juicy, spice-kissed raspberry, boysenberry and floral pastille flavors that slowly turn livelier with air. Delivers an appealing blend of depth and energy and closes with superb clarity and strong persistence, leaving notes of juicy red berries and candied violet behind. |

Wine Advocate (95)Jean-Paul Brun's 66-year-old vines in this prime lieux-dit have yielded a superb 2018 Fleurie Grille-Midi, a striking wine that unfurls in the glass with complex aromas of black raspberries, rose petals, smoked meats and violets. On the palate, it's medium to full-bodied, deep and satiny, with a bottomless core of concentrated fruit, velvety tannins and ripe acids, concluding with a long and sapid finish. This is a brilliant, age-worthy Fleurie worth special effort to track down. |

Imbued with sophistication and elegance, the Jules Desjourneys Moulin A Vent Chassignol 2011 is a pinnacle of French winemaking. Produced meticulously in the heart of Beaujolais, this red wine exudes bold flavours of dark fruit, balanced by supple tannins and a subtle earthiness. Crafted by the famed Fabien Duperray, who beyond reproach resurrected the Jules Desjourneys estate in 2009, this wine is a testament to his commitment to organic viticulture and low-intervention techniques. With rigorous grape selection, individual vinification of parcels, and matured in oak for up to two years, its production process is as distinctive as its taste. The Jules Desjourneys Moulin A Vent Chassignol 2011 is recognised globally, exhibiting a unique depth of character for a Beaujolais wine, a feature attributed to the age of the vines and the mineral-rich soils from which they grow. A bottle of this wine is a celebration of the unparalleled talent and tradition in the French winemaking industry. |

Wine Advocate (91)Aromas of rich berry fruit, spices and smoked meats introduce the 2018 Moulin-à-Vent Le Carquelin, a medium to full-bodied, rich and fleshy wine with a generous core of fruit, lively acids and powdery structuring tannins. This has turned out nicely. |

Wine Advocate (95)2011 was a year of good ripeness and dry weather, similar to 2015 or 2019, a traditional Mediterranean year, when the 2011 Mas del Serral also showed a more traditional profile, with more toasty notes, some hints of cereals, honey and a touch of caramel, a little more oxidative than the 2012. It has 12.5% alcohol and a pH of 3.05, produced by pressing the full grapes and fermenting the juice in stainless steel and concrete eggs, kept with the lees for at least nine months and put to referment in bottle with Champagne neutral yeasts, and then matured with lees in bottle for 100+ months. It's a long-aging sparkling wine with high minerality and an austere mouthfeel, developing slowly in the glass and unfurling Mediterranean notes of fennel and esparto grass. It finishes very dry. This seems to be aging a little faster than the 2012. |

Wine Advocate (94)Aromas of cherries and berries mingle with notions of licorice, spices and sweet soil tones to introduce the 2019 Morgon Côte du Py, a medium to full-bodied, velvety and concentrated wine that's seamless and complete, with lively acids, ripe tannins and a long, sapid finish. Serious and compelling, it's a terrific effort from Mee Godard. |

Wine Advocate (92)The 2018 Morgon Canon was showing very well on this visit, delivering an inviting bouquet that mingles cherries and raspberries with nuances of smoked meats and potpourri. On the palate, it's medium to full-bodied, fleshy and textural, with succulent acids, powdery tannins and a sapid finish. This is already hard to resist. |

Wine Advocate (98+)The 2017 Nit de Nin La Coma d’en Romeu is from an extremely dry and early harvest that delivered just five hectoliters per hectare! That means they only produced 1,330 bottles from the 1.5 hectares of Garnacha on those slate terraces at 350 meters in altitude. It was bottled in April 2019. It has a beautiful and subtle nose that’s very spicy (cloves and cumin, curry and pink pepper) and floral, with a palate that feels light but has great depth and inner power, with pungent flavors and subtle minerality. |

Wine Advocate (98)The flagship 2018 Clos Mogador is a blend of 45% Garnacha, 29% Cariñena, 16% Syrah and 10% Cabernet Sauvignon that fermented with natural yeasts and showcases their philosophy—slow fermentations with long maceration and long aging. It matured for 18 months in 2,000-liter oak vats and 30% in 300-liter oak barrels. There was a lot of rain in 2018, and the vineyards were extremely happy and everything seemed very easy; in fact, René Barbier told me it was perhaps too easy... It's an atypical year: It has a gentle profile, and the wines are not as concentrated as those from 2013 (the last rainy year before 2018)—they are more elegant and nuanced. This should develop beautifully in bottle. 27,000 bottles produced. It was bottled in July 2020. |
