Wine Advocate (91)The Fattoria le Pupille 2020 Poggio Argentato is a blend of Sauvignon Blanc, Petit Manseng, Traminer and Semillon, and the percentage of Sauvignon Blanc in this vintage was raised from 60% of the blend to 70%. This slight adjustment makes a big impact on the wine's perfumes, especially in a hot vintage such as this. Cold temperatures during pressing and the use of stainless steel helps to lock in tropical aromas, minty apple and crushed limestone. The Petit Manseng helps to give more vertical lift to the bouquet. Average annual production for this wine is about 40,000 bottles, but this vintage came in about 8,000 bottles short. |

James Suckling (96)The nose is quite reserved, showing some melon, pear and lavender. Then, on the palate, the expansion starts on a base of silky almond cream and builds up slowly and steadily through the long, long finish. Aftertaste of lemon cream. Never ebullient, but medium-bodied, layered and silky, this is quiet refinement flexing its muscles. Total balance. Beautifully done. All in place. Best ever. Enjoy now or hold. |

Planeta Chardonnay hails from the Menfi DOC area in the southwest corner of Sicily. Sourced from the Ulmo and Marccoli vineyards, these sites are unique in their hilly position and exceptional terroir. Located at a height between 250-415 metres above sea level, the vines are planted on abundant pebbles and chalky limestone. This peculiarity produces Chardonnay that is both graceful and powerful.

Monica Larner of Wine Advocate waxes lyrical about the deliciousness of Planeta Chardonnay Menfi 2018. She describes it as an "elaborate and full-bodied expression" of the grape which is "rich with Sicilian puff pastry and cannoli crust" and which leaves a "lasting impression of volume and opulence". With 94 points awarded by Wine Advocate, it is one of the highest-scoring Italian Chardonnays in 2018, standing alongside big names such as Gaja and Isole e Olena. |

James Suckling (94)Wonderful nose of yellow roses, fresh pineapple and jasmine, with delicately spicy overtones. Stunning ripeness and concentration, but even more importantly, almost impeccable balance for a grape variety that’s a winemaker’s nightmare. Very long, silky finish, where the 15% alcohol is barely perceptible. Drink or hold. |

Jancis Robinson (17.5)Pale yellow. Pungent and unspittable. Some veg as well as fruit. Tense and lively and with hints of celeriac. So interesting! Great stuff, So Italian! It has not fallen by the wayside, gloriously unique. Not that long but the aromas and structure (bite and acidity) are quite amazing for this part of the world. A real one-off. |

Vinous (93+)Good bright yellow. The pure, complex nose suggests lime, yellow apple and botanical herbs. Then very precise, intense and penetrating, if still youthfully unevolved, conveying a powerful, three-dimensional impression of extract and a deep, textured, multilayered mouthfeel. The wine closes very long and juicy, with herbal and saline elements that titillate the taste buds. Another outstanding wine from Valentini, who never misses a beat with his Trebbiano d’Abruzzo. |
