New Zealand may be best known for its cool-climate-loving varieties (Pinot Noir and Sauvignon Blanc), but its most ambitious wines are increasingly being made from Bordeaux blends and Rhône varietals. Te Mata’s stunning Coleraine Bordeaux blend is one of the best examples.

Established in 1896, Te Mata Estate remains family owned, producing internationally recognized wines exclusively from its Hawke’s Bay vineyards. Jancis Robinson called Te Mata a “national treasure” in 2018. Te Mata Coleraine is a traditional Bordeaux blend selected from special parcels on the Hawke’s Bay estate. The Coleraine is the only New Zealand wine to have been designated a “Wine Legend” by Decanter.
