Two Hands
About Two Hands
Founded in 1999 by Michael Twelftree and Richard Mintz, Two Hands stood out as a winery that adopted a Burgundian approach to showcase the “the diversity of Australian Shiraz” from different regions and vineyards at a time when Australian Shiraz took on a rather monotonous style. The year 2000 marked their first vintage and just a few years later, the 2002 and 2003 vintages of their flagship wine, the Ares, earned a magnificent 98 points from Robert Parker, catapulting Two Hands into the league of elite Barossan producers.
In November 2012, Two Hands was named in Wine Spectator's annual Top 100 for the 10th consecutive year, an achievement that has never been equalled by any other winery the world over. 'Quality without compromise' is the core value that drives all Two Hands decisions and, not surprisingly, the wines have received international acclaim from respected wine critics, with Robert Parker proclaiming Two Hands as "the finest negociant operation south of the equator."

Wine Advocate (98)Wine consumers often forget just how brilliant Barossa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon can be as the area is far more renowned for its old vine Shiraz and Grenache, but they should take a look at the 2004 Aphrodite, a 100% Cabernet Sauvignon aged in 100% new Taransaud barrels. This inky/blue/purple-hued, sexy Cabernet offers a glorious perfume of graphite, creme de cassis, smoke, and vanillin. Full-bodied and stunningly rich, with terrific purity, headiness, and laser-like definition as well as precision, this is a remarkable Cabernet Sauvignon that would turn heads even among Bordeaux first growths. It is a 30 year wine that should hit its peak in 4-5 years. |
