Te Mata
About Te Mata
Established in 1896, Te Mata Estate remains family-owned, producing internationally recognized wines exclusively from its Hawke’s Bay vineyards. Lauded as New Zealand's Sassicaia by James Suckling and named the Kiwi Grange equivalent by Huon Hooke, Vinous' Rebecca Gibb MW is the latest critic who put Coleraine in the highest regard - "New Zealand's closest thing to a Bordeaux classed growth".
Suffice to say, Te Mata Coleraine is THE Bordeaux blend to look out for in New Zealand. Coleraine is a classic Bordeaux of 52% Cabernet Sauvignon, 33% Merlot and 15% Cabernet Franc. It is an assemblage of the finest wines produced from distinct plots within Te Mata Estate's oldest vineyards on the Havelock Hills. They are vinified and matured separately in an oak barrel before the final blending.
