    Château Suduiraut

Château Suduiraut is an estate with a long history, stretching as far back to the 15th century although the present château was built in the 17th century by the Suduiraut family. Classified a 1er Cru Classé in 1855, the estate was purchased AXA in 1992 to add to their stable of Bordeaux Châteaux that includes Pauillac icon Pichon Baron. Their continued investment and renovations has led to the estate consistently performing at a very high level.

Encore un extraordinaire 1997, somptueusement liquoreux mais avec ici un fruit éclatant qui équilibre à merveille le fruit. Longueur hallucinante : pas loin de la minute !

Pale to medium gold in color, the 1998 Suduiraut gives delicate lemon pastilles and lime cordial notions with peach blossoms, honeycomb and ceps in the background. Both unctuous and refreshing in the mouth, some compelling white pepper and powdered ginger notions come through on the long finish.

Very opulent, the wine has a velvet, honeyed texture. This richness translates into the flavors, which are of yellow fruits, hinting at mango with lychee spice. Its density lingers, with freshness coming through at the end.

    Vinous - Antonio Galloni (94-96)

The 2013 Suduiraut is magnificent. A bold, direct Sauternes, the 2013 hits the palate with an exotic mélange of apricot jam, lychee, spices, mint and honey. One of the bigger, deeper wines of the vintage, the Suduiraut is firing on all cylinders today. This is a great showing.

    Vinous - Neal Martin (96)

The 2014 Suduiraut was picked from 12 September to 30 October. It is very similar to the bottle tasted blind at the Southwold tasting, offering a gorgeous array of almond, quince and wild honey, perhaps just less of the orange blossom here but still utterly captivating. The palate is very well balanced with a fine bead of acidity, as animated as the 2015 with great precision and tension towards the finish. Perhaps this is a little sharper than the 2015 at the moment without the same roundness or depth, but it is just as good. 150gm/L residual sugar, 13.8% alcohol. Tasted at the Suduiraut vertical at the château.
