    Burghound (87-89)

Decidedly ripe yet still quite fresh aromas are comprised by notes of red cherry liqueur and earth. The medium weight flavors are exceptionally rich compared to what is typical for wines at this level while possessing a caressing mouthfeel that contrasts only slightly with the mildly rustic and firm finish. This is an excellent Bourgogne and one that should even reward a few years of cellaring.

    Vinous (92)

Good dark, bright red. Dark cherry, bitter chocolate and crushed stone on the nose. Broad, dry and refined, with a sweetness leavened by pungent red berry flavors complicated by spices, pepper and earth. Can't match the fruit intensity and freshness of the young 2012 version but the rising finish boasts glistening, sweet tannins and a sound structure for a graceful evolution in bottle.

    Vinous (93-95)

The 2012 Nuits-Saint-Georges Les Cailles is one of the most explosive wines in this range. Dark red cherries, smoke, licorice, tobacco, incense and orange peel jump from the glass in an intense, full-bodied wine loaded with personality. The balance of fruit and structure here is simply magnificent. There is little question the Cailles is one of the highlights in this range.

    Vinous (91-93)

The 2020 Nuits Saint-Georges Les Cailles 1er Cru offers more red fruit on the nose, again, just a little prune-like perhaps, a touch confit-like at the moment. The palate is medium-bodied with a patina of new oak on the entry, moderate depth, quite smooth with some wood tannins on the finish that will need 5-6 years to be fully subsumed. Give this time.

The 2013 Nuits Saint Georges 1er Cru les Chaignots has darker fruit on the nose than the village cru: blackberry and raspberry, light sous-bois scents emerging with aeration. The palate is medium-bodied with a slightly lactic entry, hints of mocha lining the red berry fruit with quite a forward, sumptuous finish that comes as a surprise given the vintage. This may improve once in bottle.

    Vinous (90-92)

The 2019 Nuits Saint-Georges Les Chaignots 1er Cru has a ripe, very floral bouquet of kirsch and raspberry jam infused with pressed violet, quite opulent and generous. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannins, very sorbet-like and slightly savory toward the finish, which features brown spices sprinkled over red berry fruit. Fine persistence here, although the oak will require time to assimilate.

    Vinous (92-94)

The 2018 Nuits Saint-Georges Les Pruliers 1er Cru has a very perfumed and floral bouquet with wilted rose petal and touches of lavender infusing the mainly red berry fruit. I appreciate the detail and delineation of this N.S.G. The palate is very fine and matched with a superb line of acidity, the lively red fruit laced with subtle hickory and white pepper notes, fanning out nicely toward the finish while maintaining superb freshness. This is perhaps the most immediately enjoyable of Chevillon’s 2018s.

    Vinous (87-90)

Bright red-ruby. Cherry, redcurrant, leather and tobacco; offers a noble Nuits-Saint-Georges rusticity. Broad and sweet, with good minerality but a lower pitch than the Perrieres. A bit less open today owing to the later end to the malolactic fermentation. Finishes with substantial chewy tannins and hints of tobacco and leather.

    Decanter (95)

This premier cru's position on the south side of Nuits, just below Les Perrières, means that it has a high limestone content and it shows in the freshness of the resulting wine. It's bright, perfumed and focussed, with stylish 30% new wood integration, plenty of structure and depth and a poised finish.

Cassis and black raspberry take on both liqueur-like richness and distillate-like high tones in the Chevillon 2006 Nuits-St.-Georges Les Vaucrains - analogous to the expression of ripeness in other wines of this collection. And here, too, the roasted sense of low-toned richness suggests chocolate and peat, while bitter notes of fruit pit and iodine add welcome contrast and further basis for fugal interchange of flavors in a long, intensely concentrated finish. On the one hand, this seems more embryonic than its fellow crus, but on the other hand its opulence and interplay of flavors are already utterly seductive and intriguing. In any case, however much of this one acquires, it would be foolish not to stretch those bottles out over a dozen or more years.

The 2018 Nuits-Saint-Georges 1er Cru Les Vaucrains is powerful and muscular, opening in the glass with aromas of cassis, ripe wild blueberries, dark chocolate, rose petals, rich soil tones and smoked meats. Full-bodied, rich and muscular, it's deep and concentrated, with a serious chassis of ripe, powdery tannins, lively acids and a long, resonant finish. As usual, this is the most powerful wine in the Chevillon cellar.

    Vinous (93-95)

The 2019 Nuits Saint-Georges Les Vaucrains 1er Cru, which was the final Premier Cru poured by Chevillon, has a very harmonious, feminine bouquet of pure morello cherry mixed with blueberry and crushed limestone aromas. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannins, demonstrating a little more linearity than the Les Saint-Georges, though there is a tad more oak to be subsumed on the finish at the moment. Still, this typifies the quality of Vaucrains and it should age well over the next 20–25 years.

    Vinous (88-90)

The 2018 Nuits Saint-Georges Villages has a charming, vivid bouquet of ebullient red cherries and crushed strawberry fruit that bursts from the glass. The medium-bodied palate offers sappy red fruit on the entry. Quite glossy and sweet in style, with tart cherries and blueberry on the playful, energetic finish. Probably one for earlier drinking than, say, the 2015 or 2016 Nuit Saint-Georges Villages.

Aromas of raspberries, small red berries, cherries, orange rind and sweet soil tones introduce Chevillon's excellent 2017 Nuits-Saint-Georges Vieilles Vignes, a medium-bodied, supple and expressive wine with an open-knit core of succulent fruit and fine-grained structuring tannins. As usual, it's an excellent representation of the appellation.

The 2020 Nuits Saint-Georges Village has quite high-toned bouquet with fig-tinged black cherry fruit. The palate is sweet and candied, a little confit like, something almost Tuscan about the finish. Still, enjoyable, if not exactly Pinot-like, hence my parsimonious score.
