Prunotto
Although Prunotto was founded as a co-operative in Piedmont in 1904, it was not until the Marchesi Antinori began to help with exporting Prunotto Barolo and Barbaresco in the 1990s, and later, becane involved in production that their wines took off. The winery has stayed true to its original values using their own vineyards to ensure quality control.

Vinous (94)The 2015 Barolo Bussia is one of the most complete and satisfying wines I have tasted from Prunotto in a very long time. A whole range of expressive, balsamic-infused notes typical of Bussia makes a strong opening statement. Rich and layered on the palate, the Bussia develops nicely in the glass. Air brings out the ripeness of the vintage, with plenty of macerated cherry, spice and floral character. Everything is impeccably balanced in the 2015. |

Vinous (93+)The 2015 Barolo Riserva Bussia Vigna Colonnello is a wild, eccentric wine. The use of whole clusters lends quite a bit of savory intensity. Sage, tobacco, holiday spicecake, cedar, blood orange and macerated cherry all develop with a bit of aeration. The tannins just need to soften. If they do this could be a very intriguing wine, but slight hints of oxidation make it hard to understand the direction the 2017 is headed in. No matter what, the Colonnello is a pretty exotic Barolo with a lot of character. |
