Michel & Stéphane Ogier
About Michel & Stéphane Ogier
Having toiled the slopes of Ampuis for over 7 generations, the Ogier family had been selling their fruit to negociants up until 1982 when they decided to bottle their own wines. Given that their two biggest customers were Guigal and Chapoutier, one should not be surprised at the calibre of this family-owned estate.
Having cut his teeth in the vineyards of Beaune and South Africa, Stéphane joined the family Domaine in 1997 and embraced a terroir-driven approach, where he vinifies his Côte-Rôtie by individual parcels. From over 27 hectares of vines, Stéphane produces about 15 different cuvées, and it is his single-vineyard Côte-Rôtie that are the most sought after.
“Ogier bottles several single-vineyard wines each year: La Côte Blonde, Lancement and La Belle Hélène (from Côte Rozier) but also makes the individual components that go into his Reserve bottling available as part of a tasting pack. Going through the entire lineup is a lesson in the geography of the appellation—an experience any serious lover of Côte-Rôtie should have on their bucket list.” - Joe Czerwinski (Wine Advocate)

Wine Advocate (100)The 2009 Cote Rotie La Belle Helene is another perfect wine. Made in a completely different style than the more structured, mineral-laced 2010, the 2009 is a flamboyant, exuberant effort with nearly over-the-top ripeness and fruit. However, it is extremely supple, sexy and bursting with complexity, revealing notes of truffles, graphite, black raspberries, espresso roast, spice box, tapenade and bouquet garni. The wine’s richness, full-bodied, massive fruit impact and 50-second finish are amazing. |

Wine Advocate (96+)The inky-colored 2013 Côte Rôtie Belle Helene is another beautiful wine that shines more for its purity and elegance than overt power and richness. Black fruits, wood smoke, caramelized meats and hints of beef blood all flow from this full-bodied, mineral-laced, focused and chiseled Côte Rôtie that needs 5-7 years of cellaring and will keep for another 15+ years. |

Jeb Dunnuck (100)One of the wines of the vintage, the 2015 Côte Rôtie Belle Helene is up there with the handful of greatest young Syrahs I've ever been lucky enough to taste. Coming all from the Côte Rozier lieu-dit in the northern portion of the appellation, just above Guigal's la Landonne lieu-dit, this majestic wine offers incredible blue fruits, liquid violets, olive tapenade, and aged meats. Full-bodied, ultra-fine, deep, concentrated, and as seamless and pure as it gets. It's already approachable (which is rare for this cuvée) due to its perfectly ripe tannin, yet will need 7-8 years of bottle age and keep for 2-3 decades. |
