    Confuron Cotetidot

    About Confuron Cotetidot

A proudly and defiantly traditional producer across the heartland of Burgundy, Yves Confuron can trace his viticultural roots to family members in the 17th century. Now, in the modern age when many purist collectors lament the perfectly polished swagger of many producers and yearn for rugged intensity, his wines carry a touch of his ancestors’ spirits.

Having always worked organically, long before his countless neighbours pursued these practices, the style of Confuron is instantly recognisable and consistently loved by his ardent fans. Another of his idiosyncratic tenants is a belief that only by picking fruit as ripe as the vintage will possibly allow and fermenting the whole bunches can a vigneron truly display the sense of vintage and terroir purely.

The vintage of 2021 was a challenging growing season as described by Yves Confuron, the régisseur at Domaine de Courcel in Pommard. However, they managed to avoid one major issue which was frost, thanks to their late pruning. This resulted in a late harvest and clean fruits, eventually yielding better volume than in 2020. What's remarkable is that the potential alcohols reached an excellent 13.5%, which eliminated the need for chaptalization. Allen Meadows is thoroughly impressed by their 2021s, applauding their freshness, transparency, and exceptional balance.

    Vinous (89-92)

(14.4% alcohol, with a pH of 3.9) Ruby-red. Very southern aromas of chocolate liqueur and garrigue: this could be Chateauneuf. Lush, sweet and hugely rich, with powerful, roasted dark fruit and smoke flavors. Finishes with substantial but very ripe tannins. A rather extreme and outsized wine: I never would have picked it as Gevrey-Chambertin, much less Charmes.
