    Château Beaumont

    About Château Beaumont

Château Beaumont may be considered cru bourgeois, rather than the rarefied Cru Classe, but don't let the Classification decided in 1855 deter you if you want reliable drinking Bordeaux. This is one of the leading cru bourgeois from the Haut-Medoc and is a smart buy for value claret.

One of the largest estates in the Médoc, the Beaumont estate was first established in 1772 under the ownership of Henri Labarthe, who started clearing the land to plant vines. By 1824, planting was complete and the estate began its sojourn in wine production, though ownership continued to change hands. From 1830 to 1847, the estate was owned by Marquis d’Aligre, one of the wealthiest men in France, who tripled the acreage of the estate. Parisian industrialist Joseph Germain left his mark in the history of the Château when he managed to elevate the wines of Château Beaumont to the top tier of the Médoc Crus Bourgeois classification. Château Beaumont is currently owned by Grands Millésimes de France, who also own Château Beychevelle.
