Vinous (91-93)The 2019 Clos de Vougeot Le Grand Maupertui Grand Cru has a fragrant bouquet, maybe a little more compact than the Echézeaux. The grippy palate is medium-bodied and muscular compared to the Echézeaux, with dark berry fruit, touches of pain d’épices and a slightly savory finish. This will need time. |

Vinous (92-94)The 2020 Clos de Vougeot le Grand Maupertui Grand Cru has an intense, quite penetrating bouquet with copious black cherry and cassis scents interwoven with rose petal and violet aromas. The palate is quite dense and multi-layered with dark berry fruit laced with white pepper and bay leaf that builds towards quite a backward finish that will requite 8-10 years to reach its drinking window. A lot of wine in this Clos Vougeot. |

Delectable and elegant, the Anne Gros Echezeaux Grand Cru 2020 is a fine testament to the craftsmanship of its acclaimed producer, Anne Gros, who has gracefully transformed the family winemaking heritage since 1988. Acknowledged for her devotion to organic viticulture principles, Gros' wines are low intervention, reflective of her steadfast commitment to express the nuance of the terroir. Sourced from the revered vineyards of Burgundy's Echezeaux, the Grand Cru 2020 is a Pinot Noir varietal, characterized by its vibrant fruitiness. Brimming with lush notes of cherries, ripe raspberries and subtle hints of aromatic spices, it gracefully unfolds on the palate, leaving a prolonged finish. Elegantly structured with velvety tannins, this wine exudes style and finesse. The Anne Gros Echezeaux Grand Cru 2020 serves as the epitome of balanced, pure Pinot Noir, an embodiment of Gros' unwavering commitment to the growth and production of prime Burgundy wines. |

Tim Atkin MW (95)Grown in a single parcel that is 32 years old, this is a winsome Ech zeaux. It's an outpouring of pristine pure red fruits laced with minerality and sprinkled with sweet spices. Outgoing and welcoming, it reminded me of Anne's huge smile. (So often one can see the winemaker in her wine!) The gossamer structure definitely feels rather Vosne-like, even though this second smallest climat sits just about in the heart of Ech zeaux. 2023-36 |

Vinous (94+)Medium red, a bit less saturated than the Clos Vougeot. Deeper aromas of black raspberry, blueberry, flinty smoky minerality and pepper, along with a whiff of gamey reduction. Bigger, broader and sweeter than the Clos Vougeot, and amazingly supple and plump for a grand cru from this vintage, without any loss of shape. The back end is like a booster rocket of fruits and flowers, which cover the wine's acidity and noble tannins today. I'd love to taste this next to the Clos Vougeot in ten years' time. |

Tim Atkin MW (96)Blackberries and black currants mesh with violets and sweet herbs on the nose. The palate turns a bit darker with fresh mushrooms and damp earth. There's even an exotic whiff of incense. There is terrific sap and energy here with lean, svelte tannins and racy acidity aplenty for longevity. This comes from 60- to 70-year-old vines in Les V roilles, positioned between DRC and Leroy. 2024-38 |
