This has really transformed into a complex, bottle-matured riesling with lemon-rind, lemon-butter and toasty aromas. The palate is very smoothly arranged and the wine has taken on a glossy textural quality over the five years in bottle. The length and intensity here is so impressive. This is breathtakingly pure, yet complex and drinkable. Drink or hold. Screw cap.

Blind tasted.
The Limited Release wines are named after persons or events that played an important role in the Peter Lehmann winery’s story. Wigan honours former winemaker Peter Wigan and his revolutionary interpretation of Riesling. The wines are released to the market after some time developing in the cellar. Justin Knock MW: Ageing with grace, youthful and pure, loads of elegant orchard fruit, a hint of that sumptuous creamy fullness on the palate, effortless harmony and length. Balanced, complex, this is seriously good. Roger Jones: Precise, clean nose, Riesling at its best: complex, layered, textured but with that perfection in citrus freshness carrying it home. A wine to savour, pure class. Julia Sewell: Toasty lemon peel, honeysuckle, hay. Rounded, almost creamy towards the finish, bringing richness to match the honeyed quality on the nose. Concentrated, with candied lime and jasmine oil.

A wine equally split between its freshness on the one hand and honeyed lime juice on the other. It's hard to see how it will increase in complexity, yet it will, as every vintage of Wigan has demonstrated.
