It is amazing terroirs like this, combined with their wealth stunning old vines, that has lead to South Africa eclipsing the "Loire Valley as the source of the majority of the planet’s best dry Chenin Blancs" in the eyes of Tim Atkin MW.
An estate that is maybe better known to Cru clients for their reds, Keermont also produces excellent value whites in the form of their Stellenbosch Terrasse 2018. Off the back of what was a quite difficult year for much of South Africa, having been their fourth year of drought, the Terrasse is a remarkable success. Certainly showing the warmer side of the vintage, it is made in a "richer and broader" style than previous vintages making this 2018 "more immediately accessible" at a younger age while remaining "very flavourful, all the same" (CE). The wonderful aromas of wax, honeysuckle and spices aromas develop into a "tangy, focused, herbal palate" (TA).
This is one of two current releases of Terrasse, produced from an assemblage of Chenin Blanc and 39% Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc and Viognier. Wax and honeysuckle aromas progress into a tangy, focused, herbal palate, with some stony reduction and a textured finish. 2021-26
Drinking Window: 2021 - 2026
61% Chenin Blanc, 23% Chardonnay, 13% Sauvignon Blanc and 3% Viognier. Naartjie, peach, a slight herbal note and spice on the nose while the palate is richer and broader than the previous vintage making for a wine that is more immediately accessible – very flavourful, all the same.

The 2018 Terrasse comes across surprisingly closed on the nose compared with the 2019, needing coaxing to reveal the pressed flower, wax resin and flinty aromas. The palate is fresh on the entry with flavors of tangerine peel and satsuma, and quite edgy thanks to the fine bead of acidity. Touches of praline appear toward the finish. This is a lovely white blend from Alex Starey.
