The 2006 Barbaresco Camp Gros is decidedly more virile and masculine than the Gaiun. An elegant, powerful wine, the Camp Gros flows the layers of dark fruit intermingled with mint, pine, spices and a host of other balsamic nuances. I find striking purity and clarity in the glass, not to mention a fabulous sense of harmony. The Camp Gros is easily one of the finest wines from a vintage that have many growers in Barbaresco fits.Inc. GSTSG$932.43 -

Medium red. Reticent but very pure aromas of raspberry, minerals and wild herbs, plus an exotic whiff of nectarine. Wonderfully silky and voluminous, offering seductive sweetness and outstanding noble perfume. Finishes with thoroughly sweet tannins, outstanding lift and palate-saturating persistence. As satisfying as a great Chambolle. (The estate's Gaiun vines were hit by hail in 2007, and this fruit was declassified into the nebbiolo bottling.)Inc. GSTSG$957.46 -

Good medium red. Ineffable aromas of rose petal, marzipan, minerals, earth and wild spices. Large-scaled, round and deep but at the same time tactile, sappy and perfumed, displaying great inner-mouth tension and cut for such a broad wine. This is in the same style as the young 2010 but is easier to view today. Really perfumes the mouth on the bracing, very long aftertaste. A beauty.Inc. GSTSG$923.67 -

(done in small barrels, 30% new): Good medium red. Classic balsamic Martinenga aromas of flowers, tobacco and spices. Spicy and densely packed; showing more dimension and medicinal reserve than the Gaiun. Most impressive today on the spicy aftertaste, where the wine fills the retronasal passage and leaves it quivering. Quite powerful and long. But this wine is still wearing an overcoat, notes winemaker Jeff Chilcott, adding that it will not be released until late next year.Inc. GSTSG$1,099.20 -

The 2016 Barbaresco Gaiun Martinenga packs a serious punch. The rich style of this site married to the classicism of the year results in a Barbaresco that is going to need a bit of time to come around. Gaiun is often plush and voluptuous. In 2016, large-scaled tannins wrap around all of that fruit intensity, adding a very appealing dimension of structure. Sweet red cherry, cinnamon, mint, cedar, rose petal and blood orange build into the complex, layered finish. I have seen the Gaiun age effortlessly in its top vintages. The 2017 Barbaresco Gaiun Martinenga is a soft, delicate wine. It offers a bit less textural richness than is often the case. The 2016 Barbaresco Martinenga is absolutely gorgeous. Pliant and deep, with terrific energy driving the flavors, the Martinenga really shows how compelling the vintage is. Sweet red cherry, rose petal, mint and chalk all lift out of the glass effortlessly. The 2016 is gracious and light on its feet, as all these wines are, yet it has an extra level of dimension that is one of the signatures of the year. The Barbaresco Martinenga is a real overachiever, and in that sense, the wine in this range reader should not miss.In BondSG$580.00 -

The 2018 Barbaresco Martinenga is already quite expressive, its very recent bottling notwithstanding. Crushed flowers, mint, star anise, orange peel and spice are all laced together in a Barbaresco that is all about transparency and nuance. The light to medium-bodied style is classic 2018 and classic Martinenga. In BondSG$541.00 -
Vinous (90+)
The 2019 Barbaresco Martinenga is bright and punchy. Sweet cherry, dried flowers, orange peel, mint and cinnamon are nicely lifted throughout. There's terrific purity to the red-toned Nebbiolo fruit. Give this mid-weight Barbaresco a few years to soften the somewhat nervy angular contours that are present today. In BondSG$456.00 -

The 2011 Brunello di Montalcino Luce is dark, super-ripe and heavily extracted. Blackberry jam, mocha, bittersweet chocolate, spice, menthol, plum and cloves wrap around the palate. Copius French oak gives the wine much of its texture and succulence. There isn't a whole lot of Sangiovese character here. Readers who like plush, concentrated wines will enjoy the 2011.In BondSG$771.00 -

Good typicity, skillful construction, more muscular than the other Brunellos in the lineup perhaps, imbued with the house style of Luce, but this is a lovely wine, food friendly with a ton of depth. Can drink now but can age. Alessandro Marini director and winemaker. In BondSG$329.00 -
