The 1999 Barolo Brunate remains one of the most backward, closed wines of the year. Still hiding behind a wall of impenetrable tannin, the 1999 will challenge readers to continue to be patient. Dark plums, black cherries, menthol, tar and licorice explode from the glass, but the 1999 still needs time, and likely lots of it. The 2008 Barolo Brunate is gorgeous. An open, beguiling bouquet redolent of Christmas cake, plums, menthol and licorice melds into an expressive core of dark fruit. The mystery and allure of Brunate is on full display. The 2008 was quite open just after bottling, but it has begun to shut down since then. Both times I have tasted it, the wine has been translucent, weightless and yet powerful at the same time. In other words, the embodiment of what makes Barolo one of the most fascinating and complex wines in the world. Simply put, this is textbook Barolo from La Morra's top vineyards. Bright, dark red. Pungent, high-pitched aromas of bitter cherry, blackberry, mint, blood orange and white peach. Then dense, sweet and pliant yet penetrating thanks to terrific vibrant acidity. For a medium-bodied wine, this communicates an impression of strong dry extract. The firm tannins arrive late, allowing the wine's finishing fruit to expand and stain the palate. The 2015 Barolo Brunate is powerful, dense and tightly wound. That should not be much of an issue, as the 2015 will be released later than normal, a path Marcarini will take gradually over the next few years with the goal of releasing the wine two years later than they had previously. Dark and hulking in the glass, the 2015 is clearly not in the mood to show all of its cards today. Iron, smoke, menthol, game, dried rose petal and soil tones give the Brunate its brooding, inward personality.Inc. GSTSG$529.13 -

The wine undergoes a traditional long maceration followed by aging in large oak casks to coax its distinctive character - a true embodiment of its terroir. On tasting, expect to be enveloped by complex hues of red fruits, delicate floral notes, and an intense mineral undertone. Its striking depth, balanced acidity, and elegantly woven tannins converge harmoniously in a prolonged finale. To savour the quintessence of Manuel Marinacci Barbaresco Rocche Massalupo 2019 is indeed a sublime foray into fine wine.

Nevertheless, the pure aristocratic beauty of this site comes through in spades. In BondSG$170.00 -

The 2008 Brunate is steeped in class, but readers will have to be patient. In BondSG$164.00 -

Classic 2010 energy here.In BondSG$473.00 -

Iron, smoke, menthol, game, dried rose petal and soil tones give the Brunate its brooding, inward personality. In BondSG$430.00 -

Marcarini's 2016 Barolo Brunate captures much of the mystique of this La Morra site in its beguiling aromatics. Deep, layered and so expressive, the 2016 has a lot to offer. Time in the glass brings out an exotic quality to the red toned fruit, with spice, menthol and floral overtones that linger. I would not be in a rush to open bottles. In BondSG$572.00 -

The 2018 Barbaresco Tradizione is a soft, easygoing wine. Dried cherry, tobacco, cedar, brown spice and dried flowers are signs of a Barbaresco that is maturing at a pretty fast clip. Even so, the 2018 will drink well for another few years. In BondSG$398.00 -

The 2006 Barbaresco Camp Gros is decidedly more virile and masculine than the Gaiun. An elegant, powerful wine, the Camp Gros flows the layers of dark fruit intermingled with mint, pine, spices and a host of other balsamic nuances. I find striking purity and clarity in the glass, not to mention a fabulous sense of harmony. The Camp Gros is easily one of the finest wines from a vintage that have many growers in Barbaresco fits.In BondSG$800.00 -

Medium red. Reticent but very pure aromas of raspberry, minerals and wild herbs, plus an exotic whiff of nectarine. Wonderfully silky and voluminous, offering seductive sweetness and outstanding noble perfume. Finishes with thoroughly sweet tannins, outstanding lift and palate-saturating persistence. As satisfying as a great Chambolle. (The estate's Gaiun vines were hit by hail in 2007, and this fruit was declassified into the nebbiolo bottling.)In BondSG$819.00 -

Good medium red. Ineffable aromas of rose petal, marzipan, minerals, earth and wild spices. Large-scaled, round and deep but at the same time tactile, sappy and perfumed, displaying great inner-mouth tension and cut for such a broad wine. This is in the same style as the young 2010 but is easier to view today. Really perfumes the mouth on the bracing, very long aftertaste. A beauty. In BondSG$260.00 -

Dark red cherries, tobacco, wild flowers, menthol and spices flesh out in the 2009 Barbaresco Camp Gros. A big, broad-shouldered Barbaresco, the 2009 boasts tremendous depth, power and richness. Firm and bigger than the Gaiun, the Camp Gros also has an attractive upper register of brilliant aromatics that add energy and perfume. In BondSG$883.00
