James Suckling (96)A ripe but suggestive nose of dark cherries, dark chocolate, hot stones, cassis, brambleberry pie and bark. Yet, on the palate, this paints an altogether different picture, in which sleek tannins carry fresh layers of forest fruit long, through a compact, full-bodied palate. Powerful acidity steers it through to a restrained but chewy finish. Drink from 2024. |

James Suckling (97)Very focused and classy on the nose with blackberries, currants, mushrooms and dark bark. It’s full-bodied with a tight palate of chewy tannins that give structure and form to the wine. Beautiful center palate of dark fruit and mushrooms. Subtle and strong. Give this at least three or four years to resolve itself. Best after 2024. |

Jeb Dunnuck (91)The 2022 Barbera D'Alba offers a more luxurious, oak-spiced profile in its notes of toasted cedar, baked plum, vanilla beans, and violets. Full-bodied, plush, ripe, and long, it’s going to take time to integrate. Give it at least another year or two and drink over the following 6-8 years. A robust and warming wine, this is a solid entry for Cab drinkers. |

Vinous (96)Luciano Sandrone’s 1985 Barolo Cannubi Boschis blossoms on the palate with expressive aromatics and layers of fruit, both supported by silky tannins. An early masterpiece from Sandrone, the 1985 is peaking today. I don’t imagine it will improve much from here, but it is stunning right now. |

Vinous (95)The 2011 Barolo Cannubi Boschis is super impressive. Early signs of aromatic nuance have started to develop, but just barely. More than anything else, the 2011 impresses for its body and pure depth, both of which the 2011 has in spades. Black cherry, plum, chocolate, licorice and spice all build as this dramatic Barolo shows off its allure. The 2011 has aged beautifully. I would prefer to drink it over the next decade. This is a re-release from the winery. |

Vinous (97+)The 2013 Barolo Aleste is a wine of striking purity and nuance. It is also one of the most finessed, vivid young Barolos I have ever tasted from Sandrone. The translucence of Nebbiolo comes through loud and clear. Freshly cut flowers, mint and finely cut fruit are some of the signatures. This wine has developed beautifully in recent vintages as the oak influence is less than it was just a few years ago. Beams of tannin and bright, salivating acidity add finesse to this translucent, exceptional Barolo. Aleste is the new name Sandrone is using for the Barolo formerly known as Cannubi Boschis. |

Wine Advocate (93)This is the second year Aleste is produced instead of Cannubi Boschis, however the grapes are exactly the same. The 2014 Barolo Aleste is named after Luciano Sandrone's grandchildren Alessia and Stefano. The 2014 is still wound up and will require extra time to find its footing. The Sandrone family lost 25% of their fruit production in this challenging harvest. The wine offers fragrant notes of wild cherry and cassis with smoke, crushed stone and candied orange peel. The tannins are firm and textured. It is the palate (more than the nose) that requires more time to soften. |

Jeb Dunnuck (97)The 2015 Barolo Aleste was also tasted at the estate alongside the 2021 vintage and is an incredible wine at this moment. While I occasionally find some wines from 2015 to be heavier than I prefer, this one showcases fantastic balance in its depth and expressive personality. It reveals raspberry, cherry liqueur, fresh leather, porcini, sweet spice, and tobacco aromas. The palate is expansive, awakens the senses, and possesses profound depth as well as freshness, making it an excellent choice to enjoy now or over the next 15 years. |
