Five sites in the Swartland, most of them on granite soils, supply the raw material for this superb, intensely focused Chenin Blanc. Stony and bone dry, with some phenolic grip from whole bunch pressing, palate-cleansing acidity, negligible oak and layers of dried herbs, pear and green apple. Long, precise and well structured. 2023-28

Grapes from four dryland untrellised Chenin Blanc vineyards, one in Durbanville and the other three in the Swartland. Expressive and compelling aromatics of quince, peach, citrus and herbs. The palate, meahwhile, is pure and direct – excellent fruit density and cracking acidity before a long, dry finish.

Rich and tense. Very confident and like textbook old-vine Chenin. Slightly pithy on the end. Great stuff!

The 2021 Elodie is pure Chenin from the Swartland. This it taut and fresh with a touch of sea spray that opens beautifully with time. The palate is well balanced with a fine bead of acidity and a dash of spice on the finish. Very fine.
