Burgundy
When it comes to the world of fine wines, Burgundy stands tall as one of the most revered and sought-after regions. Renowned for its exceptional terroir and commitment to quality, Burgundy has long captivated enthusiasts with its exquisite and highly prized wines. Today, let us delve into the realm of the best and most expensive wines that Burgundy has to offer, a realm where true wine aficionados can indulge in the pinnacle of winemaking excellence.
At the heart of Burgundy's prestige lie its renowned vineyards, which have garnered global acclaim for their exceptional wines. The names that resonate in the world of Burgundy are Domaine de la Romanée-Conti, Domaine Leroy, Domaine Armand Rousseau, and Domaine Georges Roumier. These vineyards have become synonymous with greatness, crafting wines that define elegance, complexity, and longevity.
Burgundy's most esteemed wines are crafted from two noble grape varieties: Pinot Noir and Chardonnay. The region's red wines, made predominantly from Pinot Noir, display a finesse and purity of fruit that are unmatched. Vineyards such as Romanée-Conti, La Tâche, and Richebourg produce red wines that command astronomical prices due to their exceptional quality and limited production.
For white wine enthusiasts, Burgundy's Chardonnay-based wines are a true revelation. Vineyards like Montrachet, Corton-Charlemagne, and Meursault showcase the full potential of this noble grape, producing wines of unparalleled richness, depth, and complexity. These whites epitomize the artistry of winemaking, with each sip revealing layers of flavors and a harmonious balance between fruit, minerality, and oak.
In the world of fine wines, Burgundy stands as an epitome of elegance, complexity, and refined craftsmanship. Its best and most expensive wines are a testament to the region's unwavering commitment to excellence, terroir-driven winemaking, and the artistry of the winemakers.

A medium deep purple. There is a metallic reductive character to the nose, with some blackcurrant alongside the raspberry. When it cleans up this should be very good, which proves to be the case. There is a classy linear style to the fruit, and a suggestion of powerful longevity. I took a mark off at first for the reduction but as it has cleared I can restore it. Drink from 2023-2038.Inc. The 2020 Volnay 1er Cru Les Santenots-du-Milieu is excellent, wafting from the glass with a deep bouquet of wild berries, plums and cassis mingled with hints of spices, grilled meats and rose petals. Medium to full-bodied, layered and concentrated, it's deep and tightly wound, with powdery structuring tannins and lively acids. Wine Advocate (93)
Tasted blind at the annual Burgfest tasting, the 2014 Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru Hameau de Blagny from Domaine de Chérisey was showing more oak on the nose than the Sous le Puits from Jean-Claude Bachelet that was poured directly before it. It does not quite have the same terroir definition. The palate is slightly bitter on the entry with moderate weight; however, this bottle did not quite convey the mineralité expected. Another bottle that was offered at the domaine when I last visited and subsequently tasted at home showed much better than this, with far more nervosité and tension, a live-wire sense of energy you would expect from these vines that lie higher up the slope. My score reflects this second, more representative bottle.Inc. GSTSG$356.32 -

My score reflects this second, more representative bottle. In BondSG$317.00 -

Good medium red. Complex, expressive nose combines crushed raspberry, strawberry, peppery spices and smoky minerality. Rich, sweet and sharply delineated, with red fruit and underbrush flavors enlivened by notes of pepper, herbs and pungent cassis bud. Finishes with firm tannins that avoid dryness and lovely lingering perfume. This too will require extended cellaring, but it already delivers plenty of personality. In BondSG$1,535.00 -

The 2019 Echézeaux Grand Cru has a vibrant, vivacious bouquet with cranberry and wild strawberry scents intermixed with cumin and clove scents. Quite complex and engaging. The palate is medium-bodied with succulent ripe tannins that frame the juicy, ripe redcurrant and cranberry fruit that merges with blackberry and white pepper notes towards its structured finish. Good grip on the finish, even if it does miss a little precision. In BondSG$1,065.00
