(6x75cl) 2010Wine Advocate (87)
From the cool outreaches of Listrac, this attractive dark ruby-colored wine offers up notes of camphor, licorice and black currants. Its medium body and good richness as well as ripeness, purity of fruit, and endearing texture make for an attractive wine to drink over the next decade.Inc. GSTSG$452.87 -

The 2013 Fonroque comes across as a bit compact, with limited depth and complexity. Sweet red berries, hard candy, flowers and tobacco take shape nicely in the glass, but the mid-palate never really blossoms, which allows the oak tannin to dominate.Inc. GSTSG$534.01 -
Decanter (96)
Power and structure in abundance, but it’s the spellbinding acidity that propels this stunning effort skyward. A shy nose of raspberries and sandalwood opens into a concentrated, long and impressively fruit driven palate (90% Merlot). Still grippy; needs time.Inc. GSTSG$364.52 -
Jeb Dunnuck (90-92)
Made from 93% Merlot and the rest Cabernet Franc, the 2017 Château Fonroque has a beautifully complex nose of Christmas spice, fruit cake, sweet oak, and beautifully ripe red and black fruits. With medium to full-bodied richness, a rounded, seductive texture, and sweet tannin, it's an impressive 2017 that should easily end up being an outstanding wine.Inc. GSTSG$221.05 -
(12x75cl) 2020Jancis Robinson (17)
Full bottle 1,325 g. Cask sample taken 7 April. Certified organic. Medium-intensity purple. Quite a distinctive nose of vegetation and herbs rather than brow-beating sweet fruit – attractive. Then on the palate there's some richness but this seems to have more elements at play than many of its peers. More transparent and expressive. Finishes decidedly dry but not drying. 14%Inc. (12x75cl) 2009Wine Advocate (92)
The basic Fontenil (95% Merlot and 5% Cabernet Sauvignon) has a deep bluish purple color and relatively hefty alcohol at 14.5%, but it is not noticeable in this full-bodied, layered, opulent wine, with lots of black raspberry fruit intermixed with some blueberries and crushed rock. Both of these wines have a good 10-15 years of potential in a fine cellar.Inc. GSTSG$1,049.45 -
James Suckling (92-93)
Very pretty balance to this with a juicy fruit character, bright acidity and a long and flavorful finish. Savory and juicy.Inc. GSTSG$332.89 -
Wine Advocate (92-94+)
Opaque purple-black in color, the 2020 Fontenil needs a little swirling and coaxing to release opulent scents of plum preserves, blueberry compote and chocolate-covered cherries, plus suggestions of candied violets, ground cloves and fertile loam. The full-bodied palate is rich with generous black and blue preserves layers, supported by beautifully plush tannins and fantastic freshness, finishing long and fragrant.Inc. GSTSG$493.55 -

The 2012 Fourcas Hosten has more definition and focus than the 2011, offering higher-toned and more vivacious black fruit laced with cedar and crushed stone. There is something almost Pauillac-like about this Listrac. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannins and well-judged acidity. It firms up toward the fresh finish, which has just the right amount of dryness and grip and an appealing marine tinge. This is worth seeking out.Inc. GSTSG$391.31 -
Vinous - Neal Martin (87)
The 2014 Fourcas Hosten has a pleasant, clean bouquet that lacks the presence and concentration I expect from this decent vintage. It seems a little diffuse compared to, say, the 2012 or 2016. The palate is balanced with grainy tannins, and quite compact, leading to a bitter cherry and blackberry finish. It does not quite knit together as well as I was hoping, hence my prudent score.Inc. GSTSG$425.10 -
Vinous - Neal Martin (86)
The 2015 Fourcas Hosten has a bullish, quite extravagant bouquet of high-toned blackberry and blueberry fruit; there is a sense of trying too hard to make up for the lackluster prior vintage. The medium-bodied palate shows grainy tannins that frame the tarry black fruit, and hints of pencil lead and white pepper. What this 2015 lacks is a bit of charm and elegance. There is also a sour note on the aftertaste. So-so.Inc. GSTSG$439.23 -
Vinous - Neal Martin (91)
The 2016 Fourcas Hosten is much better on the nose compared to the 2015, exhibiting more delineation and precision, and capturing your attention with plenty of vibrant blackberry and raspberry fruit laced with cedar and blood orange. The palate is well balanced with slightly chalky tannins, minerally black fruit and touches of cedar and mint. There is a sense of cohesion and confidence on the finish. This did not shine out of barrel, but now in bottle with a bit of age, it is growing in stature.Inc. GSTSG$515.57 -

The 2017 Fourcas Hosten is admittedly a bit of a comedown after the high point of the previous vintage. This is much more introverted and earthy on the nose, missing the fruité of the 2016. The palate is medium-bodied with slightly coarse tannins and modest depth, but as before, I still find the finish rather dry.Inc. GSTSG$419.65 -

The 2018 Fourcas Hosten confirmed my findings from my in-bottle report. Blackberry and seaweed scents feature on the nose, along with hints of tobacco (perhaps less prominent than before). The palate is medium-bodied with good acidity, and this bottle is suppler than the previous one, with a little more spiciness surfacing toward the finish. Give it 2–3 years in bottle.Inc. The 2019 Fourcas Hosten offers plenty of juicy ripe red berry fruit on the nose, which is more forward than the 2019 Clarke. Red plum and mulberry develop with aeration, along with a touch of black currant pastilles and even a light confit scent. The palate is medium-bodied with a grippy entry, a slightly granular texture and a fine bead of acidity, though at the moment it feels a little hemmed in on the finish. I suspect that this may close down in bottle, but it has the substance to age well. Also, at 13.3% on the label, this is one of the lower-alcohol Left Bank wines.Inc. GSTSG$408.53 -

The 2020 Fourcas Hosten displays very good intensity on a nose of ebullient blackberry, cedar and crushed violet scents that burst from the glass. The palate is medium-bodied with crisp tannins. A slight herbaceous element lends freshness, and white pepper and graphite appear toward the grippy, almost sinewy finish. This is quite a bold Listrac that will require 4–5 years in bottle, but it comes across as cohesive and shows good cellaring potential.Inc. GSTSG$441.23 -

Cassis, smoky herbs, leather, and attractive spicy notes all emerge from the 2022 Château Fourcas Hosten, a charming, medium-bodied, beautifully balanced Listrac based on 53% Merlot, 44% Cabernet Sauvignon, and 3% Petit Verdot.
