Named ‘Winery of the Year 2016’ by Wines of Chile, Emiliana has come a long way since they were founded by the Guilisasti family in 1986, especially since illustrious winemaker Alvaro Espinoza joined the brand in 2000.
Emiliana is now one of the foremost producers of certified organic and biodynamic wines in the world. Their spectacular biodynamic vineyard work at Los Robles has established a fascinating ecosystem. This unique and regenerative environment has attracted numerous visiting viticulturists and winemakers every year who would like to understand their intriguing growing environment.
An excellent introduction to this winery would be Emiliana Gê Colchagua Valley. Gê is the icon wine from Emiliana. Translated to “earth” in Greek, it is a Syrah-dominant blend complemented by Carmenère, Cabernet Sauvignon and Garnacha.
The 2018 is, as always, a solid testament to the incredible and healthy terroir in Los Robles. Awarded a whopping 98pts from James Suckling, this wine has a “creamy-textured and structured” core whilst being “pure” and “velvety” on the palate.
A complex nose of blackberry, plum, mocha, cigar box, graphite and spice. It’s full-bodied with fine tannins. Creamy-textured and structured with a juicy core. Pure with a velvety texture on the palate, which is layered and balanced and leads to a flavorful finish that lasts over and over. Spicy on the finish with cloves and black pepper. Grilled meat, too. A blend of 52% syrah, 34% carmenere and 14% cabernet sauvignon. From biodynamically grown grapes. Vegan. Try in 2023.

Gê is the icon wine from Emiliana that’s especially worth buying in a fantastic vintage like 2018. Inky and profound, but not heavy in the slightest, it’s based on Carmenère with 34% Syrah, 12% Cabernet Sauvignon and 4% Garnacha. Smooth, balanced and complex with notes of mint, dried herbs and wood smoke, subtle aromatic spices and detailed, fine-grained tannins.
