Jancis Robinson (17)Cask sample. Top-quality premier cru Puligny. Concentration and power on the nose/palate. Savoury edge, plenty of citrus keeping the palate fresh. Should age very well. Stony finish with an intriguing zesty character. GV. |

Vinous (98)The 2017 Chambertin Grand Cru is just a glorious success. Vivid red fruit, Morello cherries, wild strawberry and pressed violets on the nose, the aromatics here feel so animated and exquisitely defined. The palate is perfectly balanced with a killer line of acidity: crystalline red fruit, filigree tannins and more freshness than it knows what to do with. There is a sense of "channeled intensity" in this Chambertin and whilst there is no question that it is a 20- to 30-years wine, I felt no guilt in polishing this off in its youth. Tasted at Maison de Colombier in Beaune. |

Vinous (91-93)The 2020 Beaune Aux Coucherias 1er Cru, from the climat that I can never pronounce correctly, includes 65% whole bunch, which is neatly disguised on the nose that offer dark plum, blackberry, briary and almost flinty aromas. The palate is medium-bodied with firm tannins, quite edgy and tensile, a little angular in texture towards the finish with wonderful vitality and backbone. Again, there is an almost Pommard-like structure but there is still plenty of elegance here. |

Burghound (90)(Outstanding) Here the expressive nose offers up a similar fruit profile but is even spicier and earthier. The gorgeously textured medium-bodied flavors possess surprisingly good power on the dusty, youthfully austere and sneaky long finish. This is also particularly good for its level and while it should easily repay up to a decade of aging, it should also drink well young. |

Wine Advocate (93)The 2017 Meursault Village is a brilliant young wine, unwinding in the glass with notes of crisp Anjou pear, green apple, dried white flowers, toasted sesame and hazelnuts. On the palate, the wine is medium to full-bodied, supple and elegantly satiny, with racy acids, discrete structuring dry extract, and a long, elegantly chalky finish. Raphaël Coche thinks this will prove reminiscent of the domaine's 2001—in so far as the 2001 drank well in its youth, but despite its youthful precocity, it proved surprisingly long lived. Here, the expressiveness of the vintage meets the tensile, age-worthy Coche style to great effect. Tasted multiple times with consistent notes. |

Burghound (90)(Outstanding) A more floral if somewhat less spice-suffused nose speaks mostly of red raspberry, soft earth and a hint of exotic tea. The sleek and utterly delicious medium weight flavors possess equally good energy that carries over the youthfully austere, long and mildly rustic finish. This is somewhat firmer than the Monthélie and a wine that will need at least a few years to unwind. I would further note that this too is unusually good for what it is. |

Burghound (92)(Outstanding) A perfumed, elegant and airy nose is comprised by plenty of spice, floral and discreet earth nuances on the essence of pure red berry fruit. The notably finer, and highly seductive, middleweight plus flavors possess both excellent delineation and an abundance of minerality that adds a sense of lift to the highly energetic, balanced and striking long finale. This is excellent and a wine that should easily age 10 to 15 years. |

Vinous (100)Sweet, succulent red cherries, plums, mint, spices, violets and rose petals hit the palate in the 2012 La Romanée, a wine built on pure, visceral intensity. A huge mid-palate and explosive finish round things out in grand style, but what I admire most about the 2012 is the constant push and pull of finesse and power. There are a number of compelling wines in this tasting, the 2012 is at or near the top of the list. Readers who have the possibility of acquiring a few bottles of the 2012 should not hesitate, as it is truly a wine for kings and queens. |

Wine Advocate (100)Tasted blind, Louis-Michel Liger-Belair's 2015 La Romanée Grand Cru is simply extraordinary, dominating a flight of great grands crus. The wine wafts from the glass with an extraordinarily complex bouquet in which notes of cherries, cassis and orange rind mingle with fragrant aromas of rose petal and Asian spices, complemented by deeper, more savory bass notes of grilled squab, espresso roast and smoked duck. On the palate, it's full-bodied, multidimensional and complete, with amazing depth and dimension, juicy acids balancing a deep and concentrated core of fruit, and concluding with a long, reverberative finish. This is a powerful, even dramatic La Romanée that ranks as one of the pinnacles of this magical vintage. |

Vinous (97)The 2016 La Romanée Grand Cru has a lilting bouquet of crushed strawberry and red cherry on the nose, perhaps missing the ambitions and the complexity of the very best vintages that I have tasted over the years. That said, it is very pretty and more open. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannin and a fine bead of acidity. It gains complexity with aeration and reveals its hidden mineralité, becoming spicy and slightly peppery towards the finish. Excellent, although I would not place it top of the class. Tasted blind at the 2016 Burgfest tasting. |

Vinous (98)The 2017 La Romanée Grand Cru shows a minuscule touch of VA on the nose, but not enough to cover the intense brambly red fruit underneath, or the veins of blueberry and violet; instead, it lends energy to the aromatics. The palate is medium-bodied with sappy red fruit, a killer line of acidity, and firm but fine, satin-textured tannins. This is full of energy and tension and finishes amazingly long and reassuringly luxuriant. Utterly sublime, and it surpasses my expectations from barrel. Tasted blind at the Burgfest 2017 tasting. |

Vinous (98)The 2018 La Romanée Grand Cru shows quite a bit of new oak on the nose at the moment and this slightly obscures the terroir expression. The palate is medium-bodied with pliant tannins, beautifully structured, silky-smooth with palpable energy, tension and precision towards the finish. The aromatics might be entering a dumb phase, but the palate evidences a Grand Cru with serious ambition. This is an ethereal La Romanée that seems to care little for the summer heat of that year and just goes about its job. Tasted blind at the Burgfest 2018 red tasting. |
