Burghound (92-94)Sweet spot Outstanding. Elegant if restrained aromas are cool and pure with notes of apple, acacia blossom, lemon-lime and a whiff of mineral reduction. The racy and wonderfully refined middle weight flavors are lacy, indeed almost delicate, with plenty of lovely underlying tension on the lingering and impeccably well-balanced finale. This is pretty much classic Bouchères that should age well over the medium-term. In a word, lovely. |

Vinous - Antonio Galloni (93)The 2012 Fleur Cardinale is a beautiful example of modern Saint-Emilion. Silky tannins and soft contours wrap around a core of red cherry jam, wild flowers, mint, cinnamon and white pepper. Dramatic and expansive on the palate, the 2012 shows remarkable nuance for such an intense wine. All the elements fall into place effortlessly. |

James Suckling (96-97)Lots of deep blue fruit with blackberries and grape skins, as well as tar and asphalt. Lead, too. It’s full-bodied, yet very tight with powerful, defined tannins, surrounded by attractive ripe fruit. Serious. Reminds me of the excellent 1975. A blend of 65% cabernet sauvignon and 35% merlot. |

Jasper Morris Inside Burgundy (92-96)5 Star Wine. 50% whole bunch, with one third new wood. This has a deliciously inviting fresh purple colour and a ravishing bouquet, all about the fruit. No sign of the stems. I loved this cuvee in 2017 and again this year. If this is in your price point, don’t hesitate. There is a really classy finish with fruit and light tannic structure perfectly balanced. |

Wine Advocate (95+)This was the first vintage for the Vauthier family of Château Ausone off this tiny three-hectare estate. Composed of 80% Merlot, 15% Cabernet Franc and 5% Cabernet Sauvignon aged for 18 months in French oak barrels, 85% new, the 2015 La Clotte displays a medium to deep garnet-purple color and a very spicy nose of cinnamon stick, cloves, star anise and allspice over core of red and black currants, mulberries and black soil plus a waft of violets. Full-bodied and decadently fruited with a firm backbone of very ripe, beautifully velvety tannins, it has a lively backbone providing loads of lift throughout the very long finish. |

The Wine Cellar Insider (94)Coming along nicely, the wine is already softening, filling out, and adding layers of complexity. Rich, full-bodied, lush, silky, and fresh, the layers of deep black and red fruits feel great on your palate and in the long, showy finish. This is developing in all the right ways. |

Wine Advocate (96)Deep garnet-purple colored, the 2016 Marquis d'Alesme Becker leaps from the glass with gregarious notions of plum preserves, crème de cassis and Black Forest cake with hints of potpourri, star anise, menthol and tapenade. Full, rich, firm and grainy, with fantastic freshness lifting the densely packed palate, it has a long, beautifully fragrant finish. |

Jeb Dunnuck (93-95)Brought into the US exclusively by Jeffrey Davies, the 2017 Château Marquis d'Alesme Becker might just be the finest wine from this estate to date. Made from 61% Cabernet Sauvignon, 33% Merlot and the rest Petit Verdot, aged in 65% new French oak, its deep purple color is followed by a gorgeous perfume of crème de cassis, black cherries, crushed violets, and cedary spice. Possessing terrific purity of fruit, medium to full body, building tannin, and a great finish, this balanced, impeccably made 2017 will need 2-4 years of cellaring and keep for two decades or more. It’s a gem in the vintage and readers owe it to themselves to check out this estate, which has an undeniably gorgeous terroir. |

Jasper Morris Inside Burgundy (92-95)Clear pale colour, a refined and chiselled nose. A little quality oak now emerges to flesh out the bouquet. The fruit is very evenly distributed across the palate, still with an oak presence, a little sandalwood, a good mix between fruit and acidity, and a fine long finish. Drink from 2029-2036. Tasted: November 2023. |

Jasper Morris Inside Burgundy (93-96)Full primrose. There is an initial richness which cannot quite hide the stones beneath, nor should it. Terrific energy at the back of the palate, more so than Romanée, with fine length and the saline touch last seen in the Perrières. Drink from 2030-2038. Tasted: November 2023. |
