Americas
The North American wine producing reputation can largely be attributed to the global fame and success of Napa Valley and Sonoma County in the United States. Although technically ‘new world’, its wines have the same devoted fan base (and often first-growth prices) as many classic European wines. Free from the shackles of European winemaking law, one can find a variety of cooler climate Cabs, Merlots, Pinots, Chardonnays and Rieslings that will entice all wine lovers.
South America is an exciting new melting pot of styles and flavours with a range of soils types and altitudes – taking international varietals and finishing with French winemaking techniques, or in the case of Argentinian Malbec, adopting a largely unloved grape and making it their own.

The Au Bon Climat Pinot Noir Sanford Benedict 2013 is a superior offering from the artisan winemaker, Jim Clendenen. Crafted in California's Santa Barbara County, this voluptuous varietal showcases the depth of flavour that characterises the region's Pinot Noir. Employing traditional Burgundian winemaking techniques, aged 24 months in François Frères barrels, the Sanford Benedict exhibits a vivid ruby hue. The nose carries sophisticated notes of cassis and dried cherry mingled with earthy undertones. The medium-bodied palate is beautifully balanced, an amalgamation of red berry fruitiness enveloped by soft tannins and a lingering mineral finish. The producer, Au Bon Climat, renowned for their meticulous viniculture, further enhances the wine's allure. The Au Bon Climat Pinot Noir Sanford Benedict 2013 is regarded by wine connoisseurs as a mesmerising exemplar of new world wine with an old world charm. |

Vinous (98)The 2020 El Alma de Jonata, Jonata's Cabernet Franc-based wine, is ridiculously great. The Franc is way up in 2020, and that results in a heady, explosive red that takes command of all the senses as it demands full attention. An exotic mélange of dark red fruit, wild flowers, mocha, spice and new leather build as the 2020 gains volume and resonance with air, with plenty of supporting structure to wrap it all together. It's one of the greatest Bordeaux wines I have ever tasted in Santa Barbara. Wow!! |

Vinous (92)(93% cabernet sauvignon, 5% merlot and 2% petit verdot) Opaque ruby. Pungent cherry and blackcurrant aromas are complicated by exotic floral and Indian spice qualities. Bitter cherry and dark chocolate flavors gain sweetness with air, fleshing out and carrying through a long, sappy finish. Manages to be lush and sweet but also poised, offering an impressive balancing act of tannins and ripeness. This has excellent hang time. This, too, is much more impressive than the maiden 2004 release. |

Vinous (92)(84% cabernet sauvignon, 9% cabernet franc, 6% petit verdot and 1% merlot) Deep ruby color. Musky cherry and cassis scents are complemented by tobacco, cedar and smoky herbs; this really smells like Bordeaux. Supple red berry, cherry and dark chocolate flavors combine intensity and depth, with fine-grained tannins adding structure. A very elegant and understated wine with excellent finishing clarity and persistence. |

Jeb Dunnuck (97)The Cabernet Sauvignon-dominated cuvée is the 2017 El Desafio De Jonata, which includes 95% Cabernet Sauvignon, 3% Merlot, and 2% Cabernet Franc. It's another inky colored wine from this team and offers a brilliant bouquet of crème de cassis, tobacco leaf, cedar, bay leaf, and crushed rocks. Beautifully concentrated and balanced, with a Bordeaux-like structure and regal style, it's a magical Cabernet Sauvignon that's going to benefit from 7-8 years of bottle age yet keep for 20-30 years. |
