Alain Voge Cornas VV 2016 (6x75cl)

Voge's old vine cuvée, the 2016 Cornas Les Vieilles Vignes is a head turner that balances loads of clean, classic Syrah fruit with the textbook pepper, mineral and garrigue character that's the hallmark of the appellation. Full-bodied, elegant and balanced, with present yet fine tannin, it's going to be accessible in its youth, yet cruise for 10-15 years given its balance.
In almost every vintage, it's worth the price difference to step up to Voge's Vieilles Vignes bottling. Certainly, the 2016 Cornas Vieilles Vignes is another huge success, with hints of cracked pepper and briars accenting red plums and then picking up licorice on the long, softly dusty finish. Full-bodied, concentrated and supple, it's approachable now yet looks sure to evolve gracefully for at least a decade.

Domaine Alain Voge is a family estate in the Northern Rhone. In 1958 Alan joined his father’s small farm and began specialising in wine. He tirelessly restored land in Cornas and Saint Peray that used to make great wine decades before. Using biodynamic practices they make traditional styled wine with real gravitas. We were saddened to learn that Alain Voge passed away on Wednesday 2nd September 2020. As such a towering figure in the history of Cornas, Alain is irreplaceable and will be hugely missed. But we are confident that the team at Domaine Alain Voge will honour his memory with a continuation of his incredible work.
